The Slate for Student Success Administrator is responsible for the development, implementation, customization, management, and maintenance related to the Slate CRM platform to improve student success, retention, and graduation.  This position is responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of the functional needs of SMU and how the Slate CRM platform can be configured to address those needs.  It will maintain overall system configuration, establish and maintain user security roles, and help to train and onboard DES and SAES Slate Captains and other functional users. Additionally, this position will serve as the Slate Captain for the Registrar's Office and any other DES offices as needed, while also supporting Slate captains and users in other DES and SAES areas in marketing and communication campaigns.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as SMU's primary administrator responsible for implementing and maintaining the Slate for Student Success CRM instance.  Implement and maintain comprehensive understanding of Slate CRM administrative tasks, including creating users, roles, teams, dashboards, reports, rules, tasks, and events. Document all processes in and related to Slate.

  • Serve as the DES and Registrar Office Slate Captain for the Slate Student Success CRM instance. Build forms for students, faculty, and staff. Manage marketing and communication campaigns, events, and student engagement activities for Registrar's Office and DES offices without a Slate captain.

  • Train and educate Slate captains and functional users of the system, including developing user documentation and training materials.  Ensure adoption of best practices by existing users as improvements are made and continuously work to establish consistency and efficiency.

  • Identify and extract Slate CRM data for reporting purposes. Import data from external sources and assist in data quality assurance efforts. Manage data feeds between Slate, my.SMU, and Highpoint. Create and maintain custom reports and queries.

  • Use knowledge of Slate to increase efficiency and productivity. Evaluate current practices and maximize efficiency in CRM workflows. Bring technology-focused best practices to all Slate activities, coordinating closely with other student information system platforms, and managing integrations across these platforms. Understand system interdependencies and collaborate with other teams accordingly.

  • Engage in continuous learning as an active member of the Slate community so as to serve as SMU's Slate for Student Success expert, keeping the database functionality and related processes up-to-date. 

  • Be an active contributor to the Division of Enrollment Services by supporting its mission to help make it easier for Mustangs to Become Scholars. Attend all DES and Registrar Office team meetings.  Attend staff development and training activities, including the annual Slate Summit. Serve on division and university-wide committees as needed.

  • Maintain security of student education records and personally-identifiable information in accordance with FERPA and the SMU FERPA policy.  Assist with other Registrar Office duties as assigned, including assisting with academic ceremonies when needed.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree us is required for this position, preferably in the areas of marketing or communication.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required.  

Previous work in higher education and/or previous experience with Slate or another CRM platform is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.  

Preferred software skills: Slate CRM and PeopleSoft
