The Regional Admissions Counselor – Rio Grande Valley will represent Tarleton State University both on and off campus, under general supervision. This position is responsible for contributing to the University’s strategic enrollment goals for our incoming student populations. The functionality of this position includes but is not limited to the job responsibilities listed below.
The Regional Admissions Counselor must live in the Rio Grande Valley and be able to occasionally travel to various locations across the state. Normal work hours are Monday to Friday; from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or as business needs indicate. This position requires a flexible work schedule which at times will require frequent attendance during evenings and weekends. Additional hours may be required during peak periods.
60% Recruitment and Travel
Identifies and recruits prospective undergraduate students across various populations that include high school students, community college students, working adults and underrepresented populations.
Promotes and recruits for the academic programs that are located at each Tarleton location including Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Texas A&M-RELLIS and Online.
Coordinates plans to attend recruitment events such as college fairs, presentations, and other visits to high schools and community colleges.
Provides admissions sessions and presentations for small and large groups.
Meets recruitment goals in assigned territory.
Represents the University at annual recruitment events hosted by professional organizations, such as Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO), Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC), and National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
Abides by the regulations set by professional organizations at sanctioned events.
Provides guidance to high school, transfer and nontraditional students throughout the application and enrollment process.
Coordinates recruitment initiatives with high school counselors, transfer coordinators, college advisers, faculty and staff throughout the application process.
Provides general knowledge about admissions, Texas Success Initiative (TSI), financial aid, scholarships, veteran services, advising, housing and orientation.
Provides general knowledge about all academic programs, student organizations and University services.
Transports necessary materials and displays to and from events.
30% Administrative
Corresponds with prospective students via phone, email and mail communications.
Completes detailed event reports and maintains recruitment records.
Uses a Customer-Relationships Management system (Salesforce) for communicating with prospective students, logging communications, creating reports and maintaining an updated data base.
Responsible for arranging appropriate travel accommodations for rental vehicles, lodging, and meals.
Completes expense reports for approved travel payments after each trip.
10% Other
Schedules and guides campus visits for prospective students, parents, school personnel, alumni, partners and other special guests.
Contributes to on-campus events related to recruitment, admissions and enrollment such as campus preview days, open house events, and orientations.
Continuously stays current on university revisions and topics related to higher education.
Contributes ideas for marketing materials, updating presentation content and constructing email blasts.
Coordinates virtual college fairs, virtual presentations and online information sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Must reside in the Rio Grande Valley and be able to travel to Stephenville a few times each year.
Primary travel will be in the Rio Grande Valley, including the counties of Cameron and Hidalgo and South Texas.
Ability to work remotely, with reliable internet access and space to store recruitment materials.
Required to spend the first week in Stephenville for orientation, training, and onboarding.
May need to use a personal vehicle for travel to events, with mileage reimbursed per state regulations.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.Three (3) year of related experience in higher education, recruitment, sales, marketing, event management, territory management, or communications.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to travel to a variety of work locations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule beyond normal office hours, including evening and occasional weekend hours. Must be prepared to travel frequently with overnight stays. Ability to lift 50 pounds and endure long periods of standing. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally through both written and verbal communications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Must be detail oriented and have a strong customer service philosophy.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience: Experience using Salesforce or CRM products; Previous public speaking experience; Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Familiar with Banner by Ellucian, Student Information System; Bilingual in English and Spanish.
