The Dean of Instruction’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, broad instructional oversight, interfacing with senior staff from enrollment management and workforce, and supervising department chairs and faculty. The Dean is an executive-level, exempt position that reports to the provost. Primary responsibilities are to assist with mission-attainment, increase enrollment and student success, develop and expand (credit, non-credit, dual credit) programming, and continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction for academic and student success initiatives within the division, aligning efforts with the College’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
Work with departments to lead the development, coordination and supervision of courses and degree offerings, promote instructional innovation, including advancing developmental education efforts, and enhance curricular offerings, including online learning, and program services to meet the diverse needs of students within the division.
Work with the Provost and college stakeholders in developing the College’s enrollment management plans including evaluating course enrollment trends and supporting institutional enrollment management efforts.
Plan, recommend, and implement budgets for assigned areas and take necessary action to ensure that the departments operate in compliance with budget limitations and established fiscal policies.
Maintain a positive workplace culture, provide professional development opportunities, and conduct annual employee performance evaluations
Develop innovative initiatives that remove institutional barriers, excite students, and better promote teaching and learning (technical)
Interface with finance and operations to budget for classroom tools and cutting edge technology
Partner with regional businesses, industry, and local employers to ensure that current programs will meet future workforce needs
Ensure department chairs, program directors, faculty, and staff accountability
Assist in the preparation and distribution of the college catalog, faculty handbook, student handbook, schedule of courses, and other related documents
Prepare and submit reports as needed related to curriculum, assessment, enrollment management, and instructional policies
Provide leadership in the development, revision and interpretation of curriculum, academic programs, catalog and course information.
Provide leadership in generating development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Provide assistance in recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of adjunct faculty in appropriate disciplines.
Assist in the coordination of fall, spring, summer scheduling and staff assignments for all departments of responsibility.
Provide instructional leadership for assigned academic departments and work with department chairs in curriculum maintenance and development in areas of responsibility.
Develop division goals and objectives and monitor outcomes.
Perform special projects and provide fact finding and troubleshooting activities in areas of special interest as assigned by the provost.
